The Desires of Your Heart

My old black Acura had served me well for many years however the odometer was now nearing two hundred thousand miles. Concerned that I would incur a huge expense if anything needed repair, I decided it was time to pray for a replacement car. It didn’t matter what color of car it would be, but I needed one that had been driven less than one hundred fifty thousand miles, was in excellent condition, and had only one previous owner. I knew I could not pay more than $15,000 to $17,000.

One day, while praying in my bedroom and asking for a car, I saw in the Spirit the top of a white car parked in my driveway. I opened my eyes to see if there was a white vehicle outside. No, nothing was there. Was GOD showing me what color of car He was going to send? I decided to be specific in my petition to the LORD, so I asked for a Toyota 4 Runner. I was thinking I would need a car of this type when I moved from Colorado Springs to a place higher in the mountains that had lots of snow. My assumption of where I would be moving was just that, an assumption – and it was wrong. Proverbs 3:5-6.

My next request was that GOD would show me where I should move. I was downsizing so I asked for a two or three bedroom house with two bathrooms, lots of light and good insulation. I wanted to be near the water, a creek or a small lake. I prayed, ‘LORD, You know where this house is and You will keep it just for me. It will be a blessing to me and to all others who enter it.

I knew that GOD would provide what I needed but I also knew there were conditions that come with scriptural promises from the LORD. The psalmist David wrote in chapter 37 verses 3- 5, Trust in the LORD, and do good; so shalt thou dwell in the land, and verily thou shalt be fed. Delight thyself also in the LORD; and He shall give thee the desires of thine heart. Commit thy way unto the LORD; trust also in Him; and He shall bring it to pass.

How do you receive the desires of your heart?

  1. 1)  Trust in the LORD, not yourself or other people.

  2. 2)  Do good things by being a blessing to others.

  3. 3)  Delight yourself in Him. How do you delight yourself in the LORD? Obey His words.

Do we sometimes falter? Of course, but He is merciful and will always forgive if we repent. It is His good pleasure to bless His children with the desires of their hearts.

Understanding those conditions, I waited on the LORD. Before long He gave me a dream of where I was supposed to move. I knew then that I was not to stay in Colorado. I was disappointed for I love the snow-covered mountains and winter sports. I even enjoy shoveling snow from my driveway. But GOD had need of me in Florida! Why Florida, LORD? Florida was not on my bucket listso this coming move would have to be a matter of trust. It was not my will but His.

I packed my entire household and my grandsons volunteered to load the boxes onto the moving van. The van was soon crammed full and locked to await the moving company which would arrive the next day. My daughter, Joy flew from Florida to help me drive the nearly two thousand miles to my new home. We left Colorado Springs and drove toward the Kansas border. I prayed, God, when we cross the state line I need to hear from you. Why are you moving me to Florida? As soon as we crossed into Kansas, He spoke to me and said, “From life to death, from death to life.” He didn’t have to explain, I knew what He meant. After forty-four years of living in Colorado I had raised five children (who were now married), the ministry I had been involved in since 1984 had dried up, my husband Jim had passed away, and so had my second husband. I really had no reason to stay. Now Understanding His will for me to leave, my heart was at peace.

Did I get the car I had asked for? Yes. My white Toyota 4 Runner had only one owner, and had been driven one hundred twenty-six thousand miles. I paid $15,000.

Did I get the house I needed at a price I could afford? Yes, and so much more! I now enjoy a large preserve pond teeming with wildlife, and have a screened patio which features a spa and a waterfall surrounded by tropical plants. Romans 8:28.

Our GOD is awesome. When I trusted Him and obeyed His words, He gave me the desires of my heart.
